THE DATABASE
For Women in the Music Industry in Mauritius
Context
In Mauritius, many women are active across different areas of the music industry, including performance, production, management, technical work, research,
and cultural organisation.
However, their presence often remains less visible due to the absence of a centralised platform that documents and highlights their work.
As a result, institutions, organisers, and industry professionals frequently claim that it is difficult to identify or connect with women working in the sector.
The Database was initiated to address this gap by documenting and making visible the diversity of women’s roles within the music industry in Mauritius.

About the initiative
Created in April 2025, The Database is an initiative by OXIDE Consulting Agency aimed at increasing the visibility and accessibility of women working in the music industry in Mauritius.
The project is currently under development.
The first phase focuses on collecting information from artists and cultural professionals in order to build a structured directory that can be made publicly accessible in the future.
Once sufficient data has been gathered, the directory will be developed as a platform to facilitate visibility, networking, and professional opportunities within the music industry.
Why it matters?
By documenting the presence and roles of women in the music industry, this initiative contributes to strengthening knowledge about the sector
while supporting more inclusive professional practices.
